The Philips Semiconductors SCC2691 Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) is a single-chip CMOS-LSI communications device that provides a full-duplex asynchronous receiver/transmitter. It operates at one of 18 fixed baud rates, a 16X clock derived from a programmable counter/timer, or an external 1X or 16X clock. The UART can operate directly from a crystal or external clock inputs, making it suitable for dual-speed channel applications like clustered terminal systems. The SCC2691 UART comes in a plastic small outline package with 24 leads and a body width of 7.5 mm, or a plastic dual in-line package with 24 leads.
